You Look Amazing! No Really….. You Do!
Those were the words I used when I arrived for my routine acupuncture appointment with Abby.
Her skin looked different. She looked well… no, REALLY well.
“What have you been doing? You look amazing!”
“Sun Qi Gong,” Abby replied.
For context, Abby teaches Qi Gong classes and has recently deepened her practice into Sun Qi Gong.
Qi Gong is a mindful practice combining movement, breath, meditation and energy awareness to support vitality, balance and wellbeing. Its benefits are often associated with improved physical wellbeing, mental clarity and nervous system regulation.
Sun Qi Gong works with the energy and rhythm of natural daylight to support the body’s circadian rhythm.
As part of the practice, Abby uses visualisation to gently “breathe” sunlight into the skin and tissues, creating a sense of warmth, energy and connection within the body.
Morning daylight entering the eyes helps signal the brain and support the body’s natural wake-sleep cycle, mood regulation and circadian rhythm.
Circadian rhythm plays an important role in hormonal balance, energy levels, sleep quality and overall wellbeing.
It was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the simplest things — natural light, movement, breath, grounding and rest — can have a profound effect on how we feel, function and even how we look.
At the same time, supporting our wellbeing through natural daylight doesn’t mean abandoning skin protection.
Balanced sun exposure and mindful SPF use can work beautifully together.
