Nurture Yourself This Winter

The winter months are upon us.

Some people experience low mood, anxiety, overwhelm and
during the darker months and the feeling of isolation can also set in.

It’s also an opportunity to slow down, rest and restore.

Here are some self care tips to lift your mood during the darkest season of the year

Take time to notice the beauty in nature.

Walking nature, noticing the silhouettes of the tree branches against the sky,
the colours of the tree bark and different sounds of wildlife at this time of year
helps to calm your nervous system and promotes the feel good endorphins
as you bring movement into your routine.

Practice daily self care by taking gentle breaths in and out.

If you feel anxious breathe into your tummy, taking any tension away from your head and chest.

If you realise your head is overloaded with too many thoughts,
once again, take your attention back to your breathing.
Make some time to take gentle breaths while keeping the your feet flat on the ground.

Move your focus away from those all consuming thoughts and wriggle your toes or even your fingers.

Stay connected and social.

It’s proven that even if you only make small talk to the cashier in the supermarket,
you will feel better in yourself and your day will be brighter.

Make the most of your senses

Add some essential oils to a bath or to a diffuser.

Pine is good for supporting your respiratory system

Rosemary is good for circulation.

Creating some comforting aromas in your home will keep it feeling cosy as you hibernate.

Remind yourself that this season is leading to the brighter days of Spring.

Make plans to look forward to for when the brighter days come.
