Marionette Lines

Marionette Lines are naturally occurring lines that appear on the lower part of our faces as part of our ageing process.

They appear as a line on either side of the mouth that draws down to the chin area. You may notice these as one of the first signs of ageing as the skin around your mouth is thinner than other areas of your face.

They are given their name as they look like the drop jaw that marionette puppets have to help them talk.

As with all wrinkles and lines, Marionette lines occur due to the reduction of collagen in the skin, sagging skin as well as lifestyle, emotional and environmental factors that may include excessive amounts of:

Alcohol
Caffeine
Smoking
Sun Exposure
Not enough water
Not enough sleep
Not enough nourishment

From an age well naturally perspective, I encourage you to embrace your new lines and wrinkles.

Make a ritual of self care. Look into what will make you feel good when you look in the mirror.

Eat colourful foods. They are rich in antioxidants and protein will support your skin and collagen levels. Here are a few types of foods to inspire you to eat well for your skin.

Oily Fish
Leafy Greens and Cruciferous Vegetables
Whole grains including brown rice
Sweet Potatoes and carrots
Colourful Fruits including Blueberries and Pomegranate.
Herbs and Spices including Turmeric
Avocados
Garlic
Nuts and seeds.
Drink PLENTY of water!

Peptides are proteins that give your skin a firmer tone.
SPF 30 to protect your skin from harmful sun rays.

Cleanse thoroughly in the morning and night.
Invest in a serum that will help your skin to absorb hyaluronic acid and proteins to plump your skin.

A few more tips to support your skin and smooth marionette lines.
This is a holistic approach and it is about nurturing yourself from within, to create a radiant glow and that includes your features and your skin.

Your emotional health will have an impact on the lines created on the face.
Marionette lines may appear due to an element of sadness or grief in your life.
It is normal to be sad and experience grief especially as we reach certain stages of life.

As part of your self care ritual, look for moments of joy in your day.
It could be enjoying your choice of morning tea.
Observing the changes in season
Noticing a moment of quiet.

Keep your sun exposure to early morning as it is less powerful and keeps our bodies in tune with our circadian rhythms.

Facial Massage
Treat yourself to a facial massage, either making it part of your self care ritual at home or treat yourself and receive some indulgence.
Using your hands or facial tools such as a Gua Sha will help to smooth lines and promote clearer plumper skin.

What will you make as part of your skin care and self care ritual?

What is your favourite way to support your skin and wellbeing?

Iā€™d love to know!

Love
